Kristan Omor 1.jpg

Take equal parts jazz, neo soul, and ’90s R&B, mix thoroughly, and you’ve got Kristan Omor, a sultry, raspy-voiced alto who sings straight from the heart. Having spent most of her life in the American South, Kristan grew up immersed in the blues and jazz scenes of Memphis and New Orleans. She started singing at the age of eight, when her grandmother would ask her give impromptu concerts in the living room, and she’s been a performer ever since. When she was a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Kristan joined the a cappella group The Inspiration. During her time with the group, she had the honor of performing at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., at two of UPenn’s commencement ceremonies, and for the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. Kristan also served as the group’s director in her senior year. When she wasn’t singing a cappella, Kristan was rocking crowds as the lead vocalist of the West Philly hip-hop band, Like Mindz. She also started writing and recording original music and performing as a solo artist around the city. Without a doubt, Kristan’s college experience in the Philadelphia area shaped her musical identity. After college, Kristan relocated to Columbus, Ohio and started entering various music competitions and expanding her audience. Her original song “25th Hour” was ranked no. 4 in the Midwest Region in Andre Harrell’s Superstar of Soul Search, and she was invited to sing for Mr. Harrell and guest judge Keith Washington in the Midwest regional finals in Detroit. In addition, Kristan made it through the 2011 Chicago tryouts for The X Factor but was cut just before the televised auditions. Kristan then spent the next five years performing with several different R&B and jazz bands and started doing corporate events and weddings around the United States.
